No one has to tell these teams twice ahead of Sunday’s playoff showdown. Week 17 gave us a preview, albeit quick, of what Bills-Bengals could look like Sunday. It’s safe to say much more than playoff seeding is at stake in Sunday’s rematch. That was, of course, before Allen remarkable improvement in the third year of his career, so elements of his current performance that mirror those past ones are not necessarily a good thing. However, Allen has become a more accurate passer to all areas of the field as his career has progressed, and that includes throwing deep. On throws of 15-plus air yards, he had the NFL's lowest off-target rate (14. 6 percent) and ranked seventh in EPA per dropback during the regular season. Still, relying on such a heavy diet of deep balls inherently makes the Bills more of a boom-or-bust offense.
In five consecutive games, dating back to Week 14, less than 8 percent of Allen's passes have been throws of 0 or negative air yards, meaning they didn't cross the line of scrimmage. For context, over the entire regular season, 16. 4 percent of Allen's throws didn't cross the line of scrimmage, and that tied Ryan Tannehill for the lowest rate in the NFL. When is the last time Allen was airing it out like this? He did so twice as a rookie in 2018 and once in 2019.

Following last week’s wild-card win over the Ravens, a win Sunday against the Bills would make Burrow the first quarterback selected No. 1 overall to win at least five playoff starts before his 27th birthday (Burrow turns 27 in December). With a win Sunday, Burrow would also join Russell Wilson and Ben Roethlisberger as the only QBs to ever win five playoff starts within their first three seasons.
